Best of 2016

Well I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty glad 2016 is now behind us. It’s been one weird year which shook the world of politics and saw the deaths of many much loved icons. This was the Lord Voldemort of years. If years were movies, 2016 would be “Dr. Strangelove”. If years were songs, 2016 would be “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?).” It’s not all been bad, however. Gravitational waves were detected, proving Einstein was right, a plane circumnavigated the globe without a drop of fuel and a woman called Candace Payne put on a Chewbacca mask and made the world cry with laughter.

In photography terms, my year has been very productive. I bought a new camera system and started experimenting a lot more with light and composition. I even bought myself two flash units and a remote flash controller for some OCF work. I discovered multiple exposures, light painting, Lightroom presets, a better sharpening technique and Photo Mechanic for a more efficient culling process. I recently posted a plot on Facebook showing the number of images within in my “best of” set over the last few years, which was a bit of fun but also really interesting. It’s not that I’m taking more images now, it’s the number of images I would consider to be good enough for inclusion into a “best of” album. With some photography workshops already planned for 2017, I feel this year is going to be a good one for continuing development and I’m sure my passion for photography will continue to grow.

So, if you’ve got this far, thank you for your time and I now invite you to have a look through my “Best of 2016” collection. Wishing you all a very happy new year and as always, I hope you like!
