Asia was one of those truly memorable trips. The sights, the smells the people all totally unforgettable. I’ve been to Asia before. Loved it. So this time the misses and I decided to tick two big destinations off our list: China and Japan.
Three weeks of non-stop action, quite literally walking our socks off (minimum a half marathon *every* day). The adventure started in Hong Kong, moved to Shanghai, Xi’an, and Beijing before flying over to Tokyo and taking the Shinkansen to Kyoto. Along the way we stopped off at Luoyang, Nara and the Great Wall of China. We did the full 360 and returned to Hong Kong for a final fill of Dim Sum and sunshine.
The sights throughout were incredible and the contrast between the two countries stark. Culture, mannerisms, food, noise, driving and the toilets! (I miss my heated seat!)
All images in this set were taken in manual mode and AF disabled. The learning curve was steep! I endeavoured to show the people and sights of Asia in a street style storyboard, applying everything that I had learned/studied to date.
I invite you to have a sneaky-peek at our unforgettable trip and, as always, I hope you like!
I’m in awe! These are some beautiful and wonderful pics xxxx
Thanks, Mum! Mwah. xx
Great pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot, Oliver. I appreciate the comment and glad you liked them.
First image, yellow wall! Almost pure perfection! Love the tiny space around his chin, wish he was just a touch left so the word perfect was perfectly visible! What a shot though! Bloody incredible! Guy being eaten by a lion statue, hah! Funny! People on the right look like they are in on the joke, makes it more amusing! ? also, I like that there are 3 gold topped high rise buildings on the left. 2 would have felt unnatural! That street food looks um, interesting! Did you try anything? Cadet type people and green tree image, love the lines of the trees and lines in the fence and lines in the paving. Like the triangle of three people but this whole thing is made by the guy in the back kicking??? the tree!! Woah the lines at the Xi’anbei Railway Station are incredible. Where does the platform end and train begin? Love it! Really love it! Going to break here for a new comment window!
Totally agree. I wish he was more in silhouette!
Tried loads of street food…including scorpions! Yum.
Yea, kicking a tree hahaha. I think it was martial arts or something.
Image after station… Juxtaposition of clean street on left and rubble on right is fabulous! Perfectly placed person on right too! ? oh man, blue lines and man with blue hat! Perfectly framed in the white space! Love it! Uhm is that a dog wearing sunglasses? AND a necklace???? What. The. Heck? Dude, that is a cool ass dog! More street style than I have! ? love your use of light and shadow. Floating head man is funny. The lines of light lead you straight to his head which is perfectly framed by the yellow wall! Hah! The shadow cutting off his head is brilliant ? love the image with all the shapes and people. Little green arrow pointing to a woman, others look like they have been placed in boxes due to the lines on the floor. I have no idea how you took this. Are you catching a flection in a window? Shadow man with briefcase! Love!!!
That dog was awesome. The owner “ruined” it after this though and put a cigarette in his mouth. Took the shot but obviously didn’t use it. Yea, it’s a reflection and flipped 😀
Pointy pyramid reflection, so much to look at in this one! ? next shot is insane. Lines, light, shadow, arrows, movement in multiple direction, loads of negative space! Just fabulous. What is that man doing with the giant zip? I am intrigued by his stance! It looks remarkably like he might be relieving himself, which seems to contradict the behaviour you’d expect of someone in his attire. Love your use of lines and light in the buildings. Kid with fish heads. I can relate! ? Where were the rural images taken? Ginkakuji? Since watching a movie a long time ago when I was an impressionable youngster (the last Samurai) I have always wanted to lose myself in rural Japan. I feel like there is something very peaceful about the place. Was it like that? Not sure what those colourful towers are but they look ace! Uhhhhh. Is that a yoga pose or someone randomly just landed on their head? Dog statue looks fierce, more so than the dude posing with his hands on his hips who looks like he is waiting to burst into song and dance. Nice contrast! Incredible images mate! Really enjoyed looking through them. Thanks for sharing!
Hehe. Thank you!
Rural images were taken in Kyoto…just outside. We absolutely need and will go back to Japan. Am.Azing. It peaceful, clean, friendly, interesting…etc etc etc. Dooooo it.
The yoga pose was priceless. That guy cam from far back, running, just to ask me to take his picture like this. Actually, with his phone, but I managed to snap that one at the same time. Multi-Tasking love 1000!, Catalina. 😉
Delighted you enjoyed those and thank you for really *looking* at them. It was truly a trip of a lifetime.
